The BASE training centre was inaugurated at Arwa (Berhampore, West Bengal) on August 4, 2010. Mr. Partho Mandal (Anchal Pradhan) was invited as the Chief Guest; and Fr. A. M. Joseph (Executive Director, DB Tech) was the Guest of Honour at the inaugural function. Other dignitaries present at the function include Fr. Ramesh Cherian (Ex. Director, DBDOC) and Sister Cycili. The students with their parents were also present at the function. The inaugural ceremony was organized and coordinated by Fr. K. K. Sebastian (Centre-in-Charge, BASE).

The programme started with a prayer by the trainees and then an introductory speech by Fr. Joseph. He highlights the demands of skill based training in this new economy and DB Tech’s mission to empower the less privilege youth. After the introductory speech, the Don Bosco flag was unfurled by the dignitaries to mark as a beginning of the DB Tech program. Then Fr. Sebastian delivered the welcome speech which is followed by a tribal dance. In this unique initiative, DB Tech will provide training to 71 tribal youth in ‘Saree Making and Designing’; out of which 69 trainees are tribal women. Chief Guest Mr. Partho Mandal appreciated this new initiative for providing skill to local tribal communities which will not only provide them gainful employability but also have a sustainable future.
