World TB Day – 2010 Celebrated at Don Bosco SERI, Mirpara
The world TB Day was celebrated in a grand manner at Don Bosco Self Employment Research Institute, Mirpara, on 24th March, 2010. It was truly an eye opener for the 500 Students of DB SERI who attended this 2 hour long programme from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm organized by the Past Pupils of DB SERI who are the DOT (Directly Observed Therapy) providers at this centre.
The TB DOT Centre was started at DB SERI, Mirpara in 2002 which is operated by the Alumni of the Institute. 7 active members are involved in providing Direct Observation Treatment (DOT) to the 43 poor patients of the locality. The Centre has been serving the TB patients since 8 years and since then the DOT Centre at Mirpara has been able to cure about 522 affected patients. This centre is assisted by the zealous staff members of Tulsidebi Lokhi Ram Jaiswal State Hospital, Howrah who help in doing the initial Medical tests and then provides medicine to the centre for its distribution.
All the 43 TB patients, along with their family members, were present on this auspicious occasion. The chief guest for the day was Dr. Trideep Mustafi MOTC of Jaiswal State Hospital, Howrah and Mr. Hiranmoy Bhowmic the Chief Secretary of Ideal Club, Mirpara was the guest of honour. The two hour cultural programme by the students of DB SERI was sandwiched between speeches by the Doctors and the other dignitaries. This programme created a lot of awareness among the young people with regard to the spread of the dreaded disease in India. At the end of the programme all the guests and the patients were provided with special snacks packets and the students went home with sweets to delight them.
