Neighbourhood program
6th Feb. 2010, Kolkata: With the support of DB Tech Kolkata, DBTI Park Circus organized a neighborhood program for the slum children. Two hundred and ten children from the slums adjacent to Don Bosco Technical School, Park Circus took part in the event.
The main aim of the program was to give hands-on-training for the students to learn and take up Corporate Social Responsibility. The entire program was taken care, organized, coordinated and managed by the formal students of DBTI, Park Circus. “This is an opportunity for you to have an exposure in corporate social responsibility... Even as students, this experience will go a long way in your professional life, making you sensitive toward the less fortunate of the society,” commented the Superintendent of Mechanical section Br. Theophilus Tirkey at the inaugural talk. Children were given free coupons for playing chance games. There were seven different games for the children to show their capabilities and smartness. The winners were awarded with prizes pertaining to study materials. Snacks were provided for all the children at the end of the program.
According to Fr. Jijo John, Director more such programs should be initiated in the institute because students must be provided with not only the technical skills but must be given all round training to enhance their skills. This would help the students to learn how to be managers, organizers and persons responsible for the needs of the less privileged ones.
