Capacity Building Training
14th to 19th Dec 2009: Indian Institute of Welding (IIW) took its first initiative, in its partnership with Don Bosco Tech, to train our existing Welding instructors of the North Zone. This week-long training programme was organized at Don Bosco Technical School, Park Circus, Kolkata from 14th to 19th December 2009. There were 19 instructors from different Don Bosco Technical Institutes all over India.
Mr. R. Banerjee, Executive Director, IIW explained briefly about the topics that would be dealt with during this training program and about the National Welders training scheme. Mr. S.C. Mitra and Mr. Sanyel were the key trainers for this programme. They started their training with the assessment of the participants. From 14th afternoon itself they started their practical classes too. For the 6 days it was extremely busy a schedule for the trainees as well as the trainers. Every day morning session started with theory classes while the post lunch sessions were practical application that continued till late evening. On 16th December, one well known German company ‘LORCH ELLENBARRIE’ demonstrated their latest TIG welding machine and all the trainees got the opportunity to operate this machine.
On 19th December, the trainers arranged an evaluation test in the morning and practical assessment in the afternoon. This was followed by a feedback session wherein most of the trainees requested IIW and Don Bosco for more time and also for frequent trainings on TIG & MIG welding. According to them, frequent training would help them to develop their own skills, which will in turn reflect on their students.
This 6 days programme ended with a vote of thanks by Fr. Jijo John who expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Fr. A.M Jose, under whose guardianship this training was made possible, Mr. R. Banerjee, Mr. Mitra and Mr. Sanyal from IIW without whom this initiative would have been futile and the representatives of LORCH ELLENBARRIE for their generous support and cooperation. He also thanked all the participants for their interest and eagerness to learn.
