MEETING OF THE SALESIAN TECHNICAL PERSONNEL
On 21st November 2009, there was a meeting of the Salesian Technical Personnel in Provincial House Kolkata. Fr. Provincial, Vice Provincial, Economer and all the Technical personnel from different Don Bosco institutes under Kolkata Province were present for the meeting. Fr. Jose Podimottam, The Technical Commission Head of the province of Kolkata presided over the meeting. It started with a briefing of the National commission meeting held in Bangalore on 3rd and 4th October 2009.
Some of the emerging issues of the technical schools were discussed during this meeting. In the interaction with the corporate and industries it was noted that communication skills of our trainees in some of our institutes were to be given greater importance. Don Bosco, Krishnagar was asked to look in to the possibility of conducting an intensive language course during the vacation. The students from other institutes too could avail this opportunity. The assembly unanimously agreed to conduct a grooming session for the outgoing students as an immediate preparation for the students who pass out from the Don Bosco institutes. The institutes were asked to make the safety measures mandatory for the trainees and that it should be included in the curriculum. It was also proposed to implement the CNC programme in Don Bosco Krishnagar in collaboration with the SIEMENS. In preparation for the MoRD project, Don Bosco Nitika was proposed as a centre where training in hospitality could be introduced. Efforts to tie up with the industries are in good progress.
This meeting became a forum wherein a feed back regarding the progress of the Don Bosco Tech projects were also discussed. The life skill training conducted by the province resource team was appreciated and more topics were suggested to be included in the programme. It was realized that LSE needs to be given not only for the out going students but also for the others. Those institutes that have not progressed with the setting up of the centres of excellence were asked to do the needful at the earliest.
A technical exhibition was proposed in the meeting so that it could create opportunities for the students to excel in creativity and would serve as a great exposure for them thereby calling for maintaining quality and standard at the organizational level. This is also in view of giving visibility to our training programmes. The other important matters discussed in that meeting was the possibilities of taking part in the industrial fair by the state council for technical education to be held in Netaji Indoor stadium; the EDP programme by MSME for three months for the students; the IIW welders training and the MES assessment progress etc.
