Workshop for Trainers on Life Skills Program
“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation” says Aristotle. Thus, Don Bosco too believes in capacitating its trainers to such an extent that they become habituated to facilitate their students to reach the epitome of excellence.
In this endeavour, a four-day workshop for Trainers on Life Skills Program was organized by the Province Resource Team of Guwahati from 13th to 16th October 2009 at Bosco Reach Out, Ulubari. Fifteen teachers, youth leaders and PRT staff participated in the workshop facilitated by Ms. Raji Jacob from BREADS Bangalore. The workshop was aimed at equipping the participants with adequate knowledge, skills and behavioural changes in their own lives so as to handle life skills lessons for trainees and youth when they go back to their respective places.
The workshop consisted of a number of group work sessions and practicum which called upon active participation and involvement of participants. It was based on Udaan Life Skills program of GE Foundation. Participants were facilitated to understand the overview of the lessons and materials of the book and few key topics on effective listening behaviours, leading effective discussions, making effective presentations, effective use of small groups, managing difficult participants etc.
All the participants were awarded a participation certificate during the valediction period at the end of the program with the message stating the importance of carrying forward the lessons learnt in the workshop to their places of work and helping the youth in learning life skills to cope in the work environment.
