Legal & Social Awareness Programme
Ranchi, 27th & 29th October 09: Bosco Team organised two days training program on ‘Legal & Social Awareness Programme’ for SHG Members of Kokar and Hatia region. There were around 114 members in all. The program started with an ice-breaking of the group members followed by a discussion on various social issues/problems they are facing or what is prevailing in their society and those requiring immediate attention such as: not allowing the women to come out from their houses, giving more preference to male child, domestic violence, dowry, witch hunting, alcoholism etc.
The resource team first dealt with the problem of domestic violence and thoroughly discussed about the various kinds of domestic violence such as physical, verbal, mental, emotional and sexual. Special legal provisions with regard to such anti-social acts were discussed and the right approach to be followed was talked about. A discussion about the other special provisions and arrangements made by the government such as women police station, women help line, child line, police help line etc. was also facilitated. This was followed by a session on National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 and how the SHG women get benefited from NREGA and finally, a session on Right to Information (RTI).
The last session was devoted towards discussing and breaking the myths and misconceptions prevailing in the society such as witch hunting, believing in the sadhu-baba, in case of illness going to pandits and sadhu-baba instead of going to doctors etc.
All the input sessions were designed to best suit the need and expectations of the participants. The participants were involved through Group activity, Role play, Lecture & Individual interaction.
The training mobilised and sensitised the women about various rights and special protections provided to them by government. It helped them in coming forward and fighting against the myths and misconceptions prevailing in their societies and to take their society in the direction of growth and development.
