Richard Lyngkhoi
Richard Lyngkhoi of Nongstoin, west Khasi hills District, completed his training in DPT from DBTS in 2003. He started off as a computer teacher in Nongstoin public school for Rs 5000/ per month.
Richard had plans of setting up his own Printing unit but the huge investment involved made his dream like a distant one. Things started turning a green leaf over, when he attended the New Employment avenues Seminar held at DBTS, he got the opportunity to network with resource persons from the bank and District Industrial Centre.
He was encouraged by both the departments to apply for a term loan. Richard, straight away, set on his mission. He prepared a project proposal that was duly accepted by the State Bank of India, Nongstoin branch and they also sanctioned him Rs 90.000/- On 1st Sept 2005 he set up his own unit called, "OMEGA Media Printers and Computer Education". Around 15 trainees were enrolled in the training centre in the first academic year. He employed two persons as his assistants. Now his net income is Rs 6000/- per month.
He dreams of a future, where his business would enlarge into Off Set Printing Press, and this time there is no fear to hold him back. He has already discussed the matter with the local Banker who is also willing to grant the loan, once the present outstanding loan is cleared off.
Looking back at the turn of the events, Richard feels proud of himself, he extends his gratitude to all those people who had facilitated this great achievement." Self help is the best help" he adds in.
