Banri Nongkhlaw
Saving for the raining days is the true sense of an entrepreneur like Mr. Banri Nongkhlaw, of Laitlyngkot village, East Khasi hills. Though belonging to a farming family; Banri chose to follow a different field, he undertook Carpentry training from DBTS, and gained a one year experience in DBTS institute itself.
With the savings he bought a 3-in-one Band saw machine and tools. He decided to initiate his own workshop in 2003 with an initial investment of Rs. 78,000/-. Gradually within a period of six months, his turnover increased to Rs. 2.lakhs and he employed five semi-skilled and two skilled workers in his unit. Having hindsight in this business, Banri, anticipates that the competition in the field is gaining momentum. With this in mind, he brought in new machineries that would enable him to capture the satisfaction of his customers and provide him the superfluous edge over his counterparts.
In addition to this, Banri is planning to go in for a loan from District Industrial Centre for modernization of his unit. He now earns an average of Rs 6000 /- per month.
Banri recollects the experiences and skills learned at DBTS that has enabled him to be a successful entrepreneur today. He feels the managerial skill adopted by DBTS is helping him in running his business efficiently.
