Meeting with Principal Secretary
On 18th September 2009, Fr. A.M Jose, Director-Don Bosco Tech India, together with Mrs. Minu Thommen, Consultant-Don Bosco, were in Kolkata to meet Dr. M. N. Roy, IAS, the Principal Secretary of State for Panchayats and Rural Development, to discuss the MoRD project as well as other possible collaboration with the state government.
Dr. Roy expressed his keen interest in catering to the BPL youth of West Bengal particularly of the districts of Murshidabad, Birbum, Nadia, Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri. He welcomed Don Bosco to present innovative projects to cater to the rural youth in order to enhance their living conditions. Don Bosco, with its vast experience in the field of skill training and vocational education, could empower BPL youth and prepare them for job. He assured his support for any such programmes. The training programme should be need based and thus he proposed some possible trades like Mason, Plumber and Electrical for the district of Murshidabad since a large number of masons come from that district. In Nadia district Carpentry, Handloom and Garment Design could be possible trades with large job markets. Other districts could think of Food Processing, Civil Construction, Hospitality Management, etc. The different Don Bosco Institutions existing in these proposed districts would be soon approached by the local rural development personnel as directed by Dr. Roy. He promised all possible help to implement the MoRD project of DB Tech India in West Bengal.
