Housing project for CET students of DBSERI, Mirpara
Budhram Mahali, a rickshaw Puller of Mirpara lives in a joint family along with his wife, their two children, both married and have their ownnow. All these 8 members of the family were living in a small dorma (Kuccha) House which needless to say during rainy season would get filled with water. It was at this stage that, Budhram Mahali and his family got identified as beneficiaries for the House Building program of the Don Bosco Self Employment and Research Institute. Under this project the beneficiary has only to contribute a minimal of twenty five thousand in cash/material or labor towards completion of their house.
The regular curriculum of Civil Engineering Technician students consists of taking up a Project: ‘Building house for the neediest person.’ Under the DBSERI project, students are working hand-in-hand for completion of this project in time; a total of 428 sq. feet house with two rooms and a long verandah. Brother Mathew opined that the house building project would provide valuable skill training for these students before they step up for taking jobs in the professional world. A team of Instructors from DBSERI is monitoring the Project along with representatives from major construction industry of West Bengal who will be evaluating this program, before they certify these students. Brother Mathew hopes that the certification would enable these students to find well paid jobs in the construction industry. Under this project, the students of DB Tech India are provided accommodation and food. The students Antony Soreng, Ruma Chakraborty and Suresh Kumar Shaw while putting in their labor and hard work responded enthusiastically about the project, “this practical experience has enriched them while doing selection of the plot, estimation and plotting!”
