Finishing School at BREADS...
Offering “Don Bosco
Plus” is a concept we have come up with at the National Level of Don Bosco Tech
India Network. This envisages ‘finishing school’ where the youth trained in
various skills at different locations will receive an intense programme of Life
Skills, English Language Skills and Computer Skills.
We have launched
the first ‘Don Bosco Plus’ programme on
August 25, 2008 at BREADS. This is a two month residential course. Living and
learning gives the 32 youth a happy and fruitful experience as they have
described the same after a week at our basic facilities here in BREADS. The
participants are youth who have taken up skill training in our institutions and
a few who are seeking direct employment through our intervention.
The youth from our
institutions have been recognised for their skill competence and the additional
investment through ‘Don Bosco Plus’ will make them competent for the present
job market. The students hail from 6 different project locations in Karnataka
and Kerala and this makes living together more an experience.
A baseline survey
has been done to understand the language and competency level of each of the
student enrolled in the course. This has helped in creating two groups for whom
the programme is customised. The day is quite full with classes and sessions in
English Language, Life Skill and Computer skills. The time for group
activities, recreation and learning is found to be very interesting for the
students as they adjust to people from different culture and language
backgrounds.
The group is enthusiastic and energetic about the experience while the mentors under the
leadership of Fr. James, the Assistant Director is leaving no stones unturned
to make the best of the opportunity. We look forward to making them equipped
for the job market today.
