Forging new bonds in the Technical field... INH DB Tech meet in Kurnool
By Mr Sudheer & Fr Bellamkonda Sudhakar
Hyderabad, Apr. 19. 2008 Greater coordination and emphasis on the practical dimensions of teaching technical trades would reap rich dividends, was the consensus arrived at by the technical school heads of the Salesian Province of St Joseph, Hyderabad. Gathered under the banner of DB Tech to discuss, review and evaluate the concluding academic year and plan for the next, were 10 members of the Technical Schools commission on April 18, 2008 at Don Bosco Technical school, Kurnool.
The meeting which began at quarter to eleven, was coordinated by Fr Salibindla Balashowry, the Commission head. Drawing from his experience at the national DB Tech meet held in Mumbai recently, he elaborated the responsibility of each institute in the Province in promoting quality and need based technical education. He stressed that only a contexual qualitative education would create job opportunities and help the young build their lives with dignity in this highly professional and competitive world. To this end, DB Tech at the national level, would soon introduce its own curriculum and be eligible to issue genuine certificates to its trainees, said Fr Balashowry. Fr Bellamkonda Sudhakar, the director of the Job placement centre DHISHA, reiterated that basing on the qualitative outcome of our efforts, reputed companies would be more than willing to take in youngsters trained by us.
As part of the discussion, it was decided that while the Development Office would oversee the financial stability and related matters, each technical school in the Province would pool in their data at the same office. This resource bank would help in coordination of different trades, and avoid duplicating efforts, energy and personnel. To realize this dream, Mr Sudheer, was appointed as the Resource centre coordinator. As part of his responsibility, he was also asked to regularly update available information and keep the national front informed of the proceedings at the Province and local levels.
The was consensus on the need to hold regular meetings and animation programmes for the youth being trained in our institutes and the staff as well. To facilitate this, a resource team comprising of six members was constituted. Furthermore given the rural slant of our apostolate, it was recommended that we be flexible in our dealings with the youth, bearing in mind the background and context of those who come to our institutes to learn a trade. The meeting concluded with each member promising to do his best in collaboration with the others for the youth in our care.
