Career Guidance Programme at Palin
A one-day programme on Career Guidance for the youth of Palin in West Arunachal Pradesh was conducted on 14 September 2008 at Don Bosco Palin.
The participants, a mixed group of 60 college going and working youth attended the programme. Fr Tony Pellissery SDB, Director, AIDA led the sessions and presented the various career options for youth. The enthusiastic and lively discussions that followed were facilitated by Ruth Chawang.
In this remote mountain township bordering China, a full day’s journey by bus from the state capital Itanagar, the young people who attended the programme were rightly excited at the opportunities available to them and about which most of them had never heard earlier.
Fr K S Joseph, Rector and Principal of Don Bosco Palin welcomed the young people and exhorted them to explore the ample opportunities available for the young and move with the changing times in order to cope with the challenging and highly competitive contemporary environment.

Rathwa tribal women get trained
CHHOTA UDEPUR, OCTOBER 2, 2008: Twenty five Rathwa tribal girls from the villages of Chhota Udepur took part in a three months Tailoring Course conducted by Don Bosco Skills Training Centre. This residential training programme offered the participants skills training in nursing, vermiculture, gardening and cooking. Mrs Kailashben Rathwa was the instructor and Mrs. Elvina came in at the last lap of the course to give them a glimpse of Fashion Designing. They were taught different fancy stitches, crochet and garment designing. The participatns learnt to stitch baby dresses, cholis, skirts, Salwar Kameej, trousers and finally a dress for themselves. At the end of the programme the participants were given a performance certificate and a sewing machine to start their own enterprise in the villages. Now that’s what we call ‘power to the women’. We hope this small endeavour would grow and intern would empower many more women of the area.
