Brief History of the Technical Institution:
Sagayathottam Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development (SIARD) main aim is "Empowering young minds in the field of Agriculture".

The Salesians as champions of poor youth, are averse to every capitalistic practice against this sound tradition it was decided in 1984 that the salesian province of Madras should buy some land grow their own rice so that they could feed the large number of orphans and destitute, whose very survival was left in the hands of the heartless rationing officers of those famine days.

Though the idea to have an agricultural school was conceived in 1954, it could become a reality only in 1959 when the farm was equipped with sufficient infrastructure like tractor, sowing machine, supply of electricity 20 H.P\

A year later, on June 11th 1960 the Agricultural Deputy Minister Mr. B.S.Muruthy visited the farm and passed the G.O. On Feb,26th ,1976 the Agricultural Training given in the School was recognized by the Govt. as an Agricultural Demonstration Mastri course. Efforts continued to make this course into a diploma course. Recognizing our meritorious service in the field of Agriculture Department of Tamil Nadu has issued the necessary orders 04/09/1985 to conduct this two years diploma course.

Future plan of the Institution:

• We are thinking of starting B.sc Agri. Course
• Training programme on Organic farming and vermin compost
• Starting Eco – Club in the surrounding schools with the help of our Students
