Industry visit to CPC Equipments
The centre team of BASE training centre located at Kokar (Ranchi) arranged a field visit for the trainees of Welding trade on December 6, 2010. 20 trainees from Welding domain were participated in the field visit to CPC Equipments (Tupudana). Mr. Anoop Sarkar (Manager, CPC Equipments) assisted the trainees to understand the Welding techniques by demonstrating the operations of the machines like crusher, boaring machine vibrator machine, packing machine, treatment machine, trumber machine, mewening machine, tape machine etc.
All the students reached at CPC Equipments at 10 AM to experience the real work atmosphere. The trainees spoke to the employees of CPC to know more about the functions of machineries and asked lots of queries related to their domain. According to trainees, this field visit is really a great experience to know-how the real time work experience in the Welding sector. They saw many new things and new machines those are really used by the Welding companies. They said that it would be challenging for them to work in such environment. They would definitely like to visit such companies again so that they can learn more about these machines.

AIDS awareness workshops at BASE (Kokar and Hatia)
An AIDS awareness workshop was conducted at BASE centres in Kokar and Hatia on the occasion of AIDS Day (1st December). Br. Jacob (Director, PRATYASHA) invited as Chief Guest and resource person for the awareness program. He visited both BASE centres and delivered the lecture on HIV/AIDS. 127 aspirants attended the lecture at Kokar center; and 87 aspirants attended the lecture at Hatia Center in presence of all the team members.
The two-hour workshop began with welcoming the Chief Guest, Br. Jacob and short introduction about the reason of the gathering. Br. Jacob briefed about HIV, AIDS, how AIDS affected, the symptoms of AIDS, how to prevent from AIDS, significance of Red Ribbon and NACO. During the lecture, he shows photographs of AIDS symptoms and also conducted the question answer session to give an clear understanding about the deadly disease. The lecture ends with the best wishes to the aspirants and DB Tech family. Regarding the workshop, Br. Jacob shared, “I had the great pleasure to come to DB Tech to give lecture for the youth. They were very energetic and attentive to the lecture and classes. I wish them a great success.”

VTC Day celebrated in Don Bosco Ashalayam (Howrah)
The Annual VTC day was celebrated at Don Bosco Ashalayam (Howrah) on December 4, 2010. Trainees from all vocational training centres (Howrah, Kolkata, Kalyani and Pilkhana) assembled to celebrate the VTC Day. The program commenced at 10.00 AM with an animation on stress management, conflict management followed by cultural program.
Over 106 trainees (76 girls and 30 boys) completed their respective courses this academic year and were awarded certificates by Fr. George Chempakathinal (Director, Don Bosco Ashalayam). Mr. Bernard (VTC Coordinator) congratulated the successful candidates for their hard work and dedication and he wished them all the best for the future.
The Vocational Training Centre in Don Bosco Ashalayam is operational since 25 years and has helped to rehabilitate thousands of children and youth at risk by providing training to stabilize their focus, to sense of personal responsibility and work culture. The VTC is conducting time bound courses for the marginalised adolescents living in the surrounding community and slums and for academically weak school going children.
The Vocational Training Centre is the pivot in the rehabilitation process of the underprivileged children. The child can choose his/her vocation and develop skills which will help them to secure a job and become self-reliant individuals. The training courses are so designed that it allows each individual to learn at his/her pace.
