Soft Skill Training at St. Joseph Technical Institute (Chennai)
DB Tech organized a day long ‘soft skill training’ for the final year students of St. Joseph Technical Institute, Basin Bridge (Chennai) on Aug 26, 2010. 75 students participated in the training programme. In the welcome address, Rev. Bro. Kolandai Yesu (Principal) explained that soft skill training program is being organized on behalf of DB Tech India; and it has been tailored for the students to enhance their employability. In this program, the students were made aware of the common mistakes done in preparing their profiles and interview techniques. Special focus was on the guidelines successfully facing the Job Interviews.
Sessions covered in the training program include self-motivation, interpersonal skills, personality development, leadership, goal setting, problem solving, interview skills and peer pressure. During the programme, some of the students shared their experiences after going through the lessons on managing their personality, time, setting goals etc. It was overwhelming to see the confidence and joy in the students during the sessions and they expressed it through an active participation in the programme. Students while thanking the PRTs wished their regular classes should be as interactive and interesting like the training on Soft skills. They have proposed such training to be carried out for their juniors as well.

DB Tech signs an MoU with Tata Motors for Skill Training in Motor Mechanic
INM Province signed a MoU with Tata Motors, a leading automobiles company in India for a joint venture for providing skill training in Motor Mechanic trade to the marginalized youth in northern Tamil Nadu. On August 17, a meeting was held at the Provincial House (Chennai) with Mr. Vinodh Kulkarani (AGM, Corporate Sustainability), Mr. J.D.David Apollo (Manager, Projects & Training) and Mr.Karthik (Dealer, Tata Motors) to discuss various underpinnings involved in the agreement. Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Swamikannu SDB (Provincial, Chennai), Rev. Fr. Philominathan Sagayaraj SDB (Economer, Chennai Province), Rev. Fr. Jeffrey Gladstone SDB (Rector, Joe Tech), Basin Bridge and Mr.K.J.Francis Xavier (INM PRT Coordinator) were also present at the meeting.
Mr. Vinodh emphasized that the main objective of the training programme is to develop the skills of the underprivileged youth and guide them to set up their own enterprises or to provide employment opportunities in their manufacturing and servicing units. He also expressed that a plan was ready to offer similar training program in Driving too as there is a lot of scope for driving, especially for womenfolk. He reiterated that Tata Motors is not keen to give away funds; instead, it would train the youth in a technology related to their industry. The pros and cons of the training programme were discussed in a detailed manner from both the sides.
To start off, they would collaborate initially with Don Bosco Agro Tech (Polur) in Chennai Province and eventually at least 4 more centres would be started in the future. It is desired that a residential training to be conducted for duration of 14 to 15 months so as to give a holistic approach to the programme. The necessary cut section of the aggregates would be provided along with a staff training (ToT), industrial exposures at their company site at Pune for the duration of 3 to 4 weeks; and the syllabus content would be ensured by the industry leaders.
While welcoming this new tie-up, Rev.Fr.Stanislaus Swamikannu SDB recollected the positive experiences of the batch of students from Don Bosco (Polur) who had gone in May 2010 to the manufacturing unit at Pune. As a concluding remark, he reinforced that the MoU signed with Tata Motors would enhance the skill training and the livelihood of many an underprivileged youth of Tamil Nadu.

The Finishing School Programme at BREADS (Bangalore)
The third batch of the Finishing School under the Bosco Plus programme was officially inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Thomas Anchukandam (Provincial, Bangalore Province) at BREADS on August 19, 2010. 26 students were selected for this training program based on their academic performance from Don Bosco centres at Hassan, KGF, Bhadravathi, Davangere and Vaduthala.
The Bosco Plus Programme initiated by DB Tech to equip the students, who completed their training in various centres in Kerala and Karnataka with communicative English, basic computer knowledge, soft skills, life skills and workplace readiness. In this two-months of residential programme, these students will be fine-tuned with essential skills required by the employers. At the end of the training programme, BREADS will also contact companies and industries who may recruit these students for placement after the finishing school programme.
